While on a rescue mission to extract a surrounded US Air Force Combat Control Team, his aircraft came under intensely heavy small-arms fire. After several attempts and serious damage to his aircraft, he finally was able to land and successfully rescue the Combat Control Team. His bravery directly saved the lives of the Combat Control Team Members.
