My father was with the second Australia Army Training Team Vietnam 63 / 64. He worked with American SF personel during this time. I am just finishing 31 + years in the Australian Defence Force (ADF), serving in the Sinai (MFO) and in East Timor as part of International force East Timor (INTERFET). Most of my time I have been in the only Parachute unit in the ADF the Third Battalion of the Royal Australian Regiment (3 RAR) "Old Faithful".
This is a great site, god bless past and present American SF members.

I first studied the Special Forces and Special operations in the University system. The forces have come a long way! They are all very special to me. Regardless of the politics involved, our special ops personnel have " stayed the course" and " freed the opressed. " For this we can still sleep a bit safer...for now. Unfortunately, the newest threats are yet to be known and endanger our way of life in America. My hope is we stay ever vigilant!! Nuclear threats are pending in a new and more terrifying way. Excellent job Spec Ops, thank you for you past and present sacrifices!

Once again, I find myself tripping down memory lane, thinking about my Father,MSGT. Willie Douglas Stephens 5th S.F.G. who was killed in Vietnam on March 6, 1970 W/ Sgt. Foote. a photo composistion I created several years ago and posted on my web page was commented on by a visitor who designs computer graphics. Her question's have brought me here as my way of still trying to learn to deal with his death. I suppose that even in death there is still commaraderie with those that have also suffered tragic losses. I spent 18 years searching for the members of his group that survived because of the sacrafices of Sgt. Foote and himself, and have located several members. They spoke with me briefly, but as Special Forces People are,...they simply faded away again into nothingness. I thank them one and all for my very brief contact with them, even the man that had no other choice but to order my Father and Sgt. Foote to the "Hell Hole" as he put it, to their deaths, in order that the rest of the Group may live to fight another day. There is no forgiveness for him, because he did nothing wrong, it was simply a decision that had to be be made ( the good of the many out weigh the needs of the few.). I especially want to thank the Oregonian, I will never forget you!

Maybe you can help. I have a friend here in Pawleys Island, SC, Bonnie Brewer, whose father served in the 1st and 7th SFG. Very early on, he was one of the first of the first. She was one of eight kids, and her father died early, but he was a Major or LTC in the Special Forces when he left the army. He worked his way up the ranks.
Do you have any resources that can help me or her find out more information? Bonnie does not remember too much since she was young (during the Army years) , but she said they were on Okinawa for several years, several different times. Also, home base was pretty much Ft. Bragg during the years, but she remembered one tour at Fort Gordon, Georgia.
Any help, or direction to resources would help.

AWESOME Website, I have now reviewed almost the entire thing and it is a facinating communication device. Please spread the word to as many spec op vets and their families as soon as possible so that they can find old friends, there is power in this place. One friend of mine, RICK MICHAEL, who served in the 5th Group in Viet Nam from 68-69, would love to hear from his teammates. He's living in Thailand now, call or email me to get his contact info.
Also, I am personally looking for the Colflesh family formerly ? of the Springfield, PA area who had a lot to do with my desire to join the finest group professionals I have ever known, The US Army Special Forces, they told me about how awesome 10th Group was and what I had to do to prepare. Thank you! Wendy who served at a very high level in the 5Th SFG(A),79-82; Sam and Bobby, Wendy's older twin brothers both in the 10thSFG(A)were on ODA's from 1976-80. "Bernie B. Wheels" is the Mom of the above three three Special Forces Professionals, and someone near and dear to my heart( she was my girfriend Wendy's Mom after all, so I wanted to be on her good side. I want to send her a message if anyone knows how to contact this very special SF family, please. Finally, Many Thanks to my possible future father in law Bob Colflesh, father of Three Special Forces volunteers mentioned above, wow!!!! He gave me one of the greatest gifts I 've ever received in my now 47 years of life, the most unconditional support and encouragement in the way of weekly letters during all the days of my 1st years of basic, airborne and SF training, Thanks a million Bob!, Drop me an email if you find this website! Again many, many thanks to the creators of this website!
Thank you for all who are reading this and mostly to all those that after reading someone's posting take ACTION to help another one of our brothers and sisters or their family members who have given so much for their country and fellow citizens. I want finally to thank those who have created this place!

The Montagnard people were the best friends i had in Nam, Hated by the South and the North, The most fearest fighters ever in my book, Better then any of the South, and definately far better than anyone in the North. I can not thank them enough for thier part in the war that we should have have one. The CIA let them down and and we as Special Forces SOG will never forget them. Just an ole fart who still lives the nightmares, and hear the screames of the dying. The faces are still there in my mind. Are Presedent (LBJ) was missinformed and missled to beleive we we're loseing in Nam, (BULL), We we're that close too ending it when he odered the bombing too stop. Thanks (McNamarra), and the rest of you that convence (LBJ) to stop. You all should be proud of yous selfs. Please don't stop what is going on in Iraq, Keep fighting so as for those that want to be FREE can be FREE with the help of the USofA. A tired old soldier. Sarge.

We have a web site and would like to honor him with information on our page we are putting up on classmates who served in the military. We are looking for a picture of Don in his uniform. Thought maybe there is someone out there who knew him and could help. Thank you. S Gergen

I served with the US Army Special Forces from 1962-1970.
I was with the 5th SFG (Abn) in Vietnam from 64-65 and 69-70.It doesn't get any better than that. I retired as a MSG
(E8) on 11/30/77. My wife, Patricia, loved The Green Berets. She was proud to say "My husband is a Greet Beret" For any that knew her, she was stricken with ovarian cancer on April 16, 1998 and passed away on June 6, 2005 at 3:55 PM. Married on Sep 11, 1958 and after almost 47 years of marriage, she left me for a better man. Got rest her and all of our military heroes who have gone before her and after. De Oppresso Liber.

But, To Find This Proof. You Would Have To Go, Deep In The Pentagon Archive.
It is with great priviledge and the highest destint honor that I hope that my words, will touch a young boy's heart. In the beginning there was a line drawn, that no man shall ever cross regardless of race, color, or creed, rich or poor. No man is above the law and not one man is the law... So let it be known from this day forward that if these words are ever violated, they would have to answer to my dragon.

I was with Co C, 6th SFG at Fort Bragg from April ?? 67 to April 69, MOS 05B4S. Left to go to flight school and served with the 498th Dustoff in Nam Jun 70, Jun 71. I just found your site and on the Memorial I saw the name Eugene H. Pugh. Gene was my best friend at Fort Bragg and we spent many happy times together. He would often spend time evenings and weekends with my wife and me. I lost touch with him after I left for flight school and have wondered ever since what had happened to him. If anyone could let me know if his name being on the Memorial means that he is deceased, could they let me know, if possible, when he died, and where he is buried. My short time with SF was one of the best times of my life. I still have the Berets I wore and my kids are really proud of them. Thanks for a great site, and for any information on my friend Gene Pugh.

May 20, 2005 close to Green River, Utah. From what i heard, he was a very wonderful person. I knew him when he was in grade school and junior high. I would like to know if anyone out there knew him. He was based out of Miramar in San Diego. I don't know what unit he was in, all i know is that he was a Marine in San Diego. He just returned from Iraq after being there for a year and was going to see his sister graduate in Colorado and then be married. He fell asleep at the wheel and went under a semi. From 8-69 til 1-70 assigned as Asst. Team Leader, Reconnaissance Patrol Team "Dakota" - Certificate of Service from Granville T. Casey, MSGT/Operations Team Sgt. John was honored with the Silver Star, Bronze Star, 2 Purple Hearts, 2 Air Medals, Commendation Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Parachutist Wings, Special Forces & Ranger, Recondo Badge, Long Range Reconnaissance and LRRP Patrol. He was a member of the Special Forces Association (No. A-1490) for several years. After loosing his bladder from cancer 5 years ago, John has lost his battle with colon and pelvic cancer on October 25, 2004. I've learned more about his service to this country since his death than I knew in the 33 years we were married. Although my soul died with him and my heart was broken, it bleeds with pride and thankfulness for the sacrifice John and all of you paid for us - thank you! I would love to hear from any of you that knew him. Jan Dumestre - email dumestrej@bellsouth.net

One more thing, does anyone that has served in Nam and or Korea know of a man named Col. Jamie (Grizzly) Hindrix??? He is a friend of mine that served in those two wars and was SF! I have served with many SF and have not found anyone that has known him, or ever heard of him. I am trying to put a plaque together for him bur I have not been able to due to the fact that no one knows who he is. He appartently knew Col. Beckwith when he was a Capt.
I would appreciate any inputs.

I'm the Widow of Frank William Collins. He served in Korean and Viet Nam from 1953-1968, was wounded and medically discharged. I'm fighting the V.A. now to get my DIC claim done. Been waiting 2 yrs now and he didn't Certify his last DD214 form, I have a copy here but they won't accept it the way it is. He carried it in his wallet. If anyone out there may have served in his unit, he was Green Beret Special Forces, Search and Destroy, Sgt. Major and in for 14.5 yrs. He was also known as "Windy the Clown" back then too. He did a few shows for moral in the service to cheer up the troups etc. Please email me if you have any info I can use to prove Rep. of Viet Nam and exposure to Agent Orange. He had diabetes and congestive heart failure. Died in Seattle V.A. Hosp. at age 67. One buddy did find him but 1 week too late! He was on his original team in Viet Nam. Frank was also 101st and 82nd Airborne. Someone prob. remembers him out there. If so let me know. Thanks Liz Collins

My uncle was in Vietnam. I believe he was in the Army or Marines, I am not sure. He was a sniper. He is still with
the government in Iraq and will be until the day he dies. I have not seen him since he came home for a day during the
time the conflict in Vietnam was going on. I love him very much and he is my hero. All Special Forces are my family and
the guys I know in my area treat me like one of them. I was a civilian working for the government during the time of
Vietnam and my uncle saw to it that the government took good care of me and some other family
members. I pray all Special Forces will be accounted for and the ones in harms way come home safely and sound and don't
have to go through the hell we did in Vietnam. I hope their minds are right. As right as they can be after all the things
they do for their country. If anyone has any information on Jerry "Mad Dog" Shriver please e-mail me and let me
know. I think he is a family member but I am not sure. Mom won't talk about my uncle because she is very family orientated
and feels like my uncle deserted the family when he joined the service and made a life out of
it. I know he enjoys what he is does and that is fine by me. I am very proud of what he does and even if he
never comes home again I will know he died doing what he wanted to do for his country and he loved what he did.

Reference Ray Simpson, VC. First, I believe you've mispelled his surname. If I am not mistaken, Rayenne has two "n"s. (Unless the display in Kennedy hall is wrong. Hell, I always thought it was Ray N. Simpson). Second, he was NOT RAR when he was serving with the MIKE Force. Ray was Aussie SAS, seconded to Commando, which in those days was a Reserve unit with a regular army cadre. Thus Ray wore the green Commando beret while he was with us. Since he had served with RAR in both Japan and Korea (Not sure who he was with in Malaya), he would not feel insulted. But as he was out of Commando when he won the VC, he should probably be listed that way.
For those who knew WO Peter "Wallaby" Wilkes, former CO of 212th MIKE Force company, sad to say he passed away in Queensland about two months ago. Wallaby was among our more colorful Aussies, and that's saying a lot.

I would like to praise this web site. I am a cousin of Anissa Shero and I am still having a hard time dealing with her passing and this page is a great reminder that she will never be forgotten by her country. Hopefully this website will be here so I can show my kids the cousin that I loved so dearly. Thanks again for this site.

Hi, my name is Scott and I am representing a group of Ohio high school students who have worked hard to drive interest and support for a war memorial to be built in Washington DC...
In 1993 students at my school were watching, Channel One, an educational program, which ran footage of
Somalia and showed an American soldier being dragged through the streets of Mogadishu. That moment in history was the catalyst that started the "Pyramid Of Remembrance".
The Pyramid Of Remembrance monument will honor all soldiers of all branches who have been killed in peace keeping missions, military training accidents, terrorist acts and other non-declared war events.
We need your help to make this happen. While a bill dealing with this issue has been introduced to Congress,
we still need help raising funds and making sure this will actually happen. If you would like more information, email me, Thanks

your selves and take it not upon your selves and think u did wrong by doing as ordered let things rest and know all of Gods warriors did as they were ordered and after all We serve God and country, RIGHT! Be at peace all of u! And if any of u know who my father was please email me. The bastard kept ur secrets even into DEATH, what a hell of a man! He spoke highly of one man I know of highly as well HIS NAME WAS "MAD DOG SHRIVER" If u know of this known soldier as well by his nick name please email me as well!
May all who serve and served I stand as a civilian but I salute u any way for ur courage u have shown and ur honor u have displayed to ur selves and to ur country. Thank u for my freedom!!!!

This is a special "Thank You" to our son SGT Philip James Svitak - KIA in Afghanistan March 04, 2002. Phil - "Thank You" son for being a person we could always be proud of - for your strength of character, your devotion to your family, friends and faith. For your beliefs and dedication to duty - for your loyalty and compassion for others. Thank You for being someone not only we, but others, could depend on. We enjoyed your quick wit and laughter and common sense. Everything that we had we wanted to share with you because you were the very essence of our beings - a special gift from God. We could not understand the driving desire you had to join and then re-join the "Night Stalker" Unit nor the extreme pride you had while in this Unit until we met your "brothers" of the 160th. The respect they hold for you is so very touching and we are grateful for shared memories of you they have given to us. Pictures flash in my mind starting from the moment we first held you in our arms to the young boy in OD Greens & Camo always on a bike or skateboard to the young teen in Civil Air Patrol blues. Other pictures are of you working at the grill for Hy-Vee, working under the hood of your beloved '68 Firebird. You with Shannon Stone and his pickup or on your Motorcycles - you with Laura and then our Grandbabies. How proudly you offered them for us to hold and cuddle. The pictures are never-ending - almost 32 years of them. You were, as your dad and I will always say "The best kid a parent could ever have". You were a silent achiever - you didn't brag about all that you had done. I deeply regret son that in this lifetime we did not have you until WE were no more and that you did not have the chance to "grow old" with Laura and see your sons grow to manhood. Hero's don't choose their destiny - destiny chooses them. Rest gently my son - until we meet again. Love always from - Mom & Dad
